ABOUT ABOUT

One gave a folk music voice to a generation of rebels; the other became the poet laureate of punk.

From the Newport Folk Festival to CBGB on the Bowery, Joan Baez and Patti Smith have long stood at the intersection of American popular music and cultural upheaval.

For more than sixty years, Baez sang out her hopes and our dreams in her otherworldly voice, quickly becoming the face of a profound generational movement. For almost a half century, Smith wove together Bohemian sensibilities and rock, inspired in no small part by Baez, one of her heroes.

For one night, these two legends will appear together to celebrate the publication of Baez’s new book, Am I Pretty When I Fly?, and the release of a documentary film about her history-making public life and her personal journey, Joan Baez I Am A Noise. The New York Times hails the film as, “an eloquent meditation on making peace with the past.”

Don’t miss this extraordinary opportunity to hear from two boundary-smashing women, in conversation with New Yorker staff writer and author Amanda Petrusich.

Joan Baez I Am A Noise (directed by Miri Navasky, Maeve O'Boyle, Karen O'Connor and distributed by Magnolia Pictures) is now playing at Film Forum in New York City, and will open in theaters across the country on October 13.
